We were putting on an extravaganza here. We’ve hired in some film-makers to capture the moment and we’ve also got with us a brass band. When we realised that John Brown wasn’t going to be able to be there, what with having to go to San Francisco to organise his wedding, we need a replacement. Or six replacements as it turned out. Today was a great opportunity for us to also play some new stuff.
Speigletent is a deadly place too, hexagonal and mirror filled, with a grand piano taking up most of the stage. There’s a sense of occasion, so we all dress up. Except Simon. Jurgen announces that the Brassers are called “the Truffles”. Today we debut the magnificently monikered ‘The day the arms that came out of the wall’ and Jurgens new brass arrangement one that doesn’t have a name.
After this gig we’re off to have a shave and clean the old shoes in preparation for a trip across the Atlantic to see John get married. What a day that was, but it didn’t involve us playing any gigs, so I can’t tell you about it.
